Patchworking and Quilting - Free Technique Square in a Square (sort of!)
with
Isabel Sunderland
Saturday 18th September 2010 9.30am - 4.30pm
Cost £40

Based on jan Mullen's technique.  Start with an irregular 4 sided shape, add other irregular pieces but finishe up with easy to piece regular squares.  Use a subtle range of co-ordinating fabrics or bright fabrics for a child, for a wall hanging or bed quilt.  Quilt is approx 50"x50" . For the class you will need to bring with you:

To make a quilt approx 50” x 50”
At least 18 co-ordinating fat quarters - more if you want/have them in colours that you like.
(This is a good design to make in bright colours for a child’s quilt but looks equally good in any fabric.)
If you have a few pieces 5” or more square that will co-ordinate with the above then bring those as well.
Approx 1½ metres to make a 5½ ” border. (You may want to decide on the border fabric and the width of the border after making the main part of the quilt)

Or To make a Play Mat approx 40 x 40

At least 12 co-ordinating fat quarters - up to 16 if you have them in colours that you like.
If you have a few pieces not less than 5” square that will co-ordinate with the above then bring those as well.
Approx 75 cm for a 5” border (You may want to decide on the border fabric and the width of the border after making the main part of the quilt)
Usual sewing kit (needles, scissors, pins etc)
Rotary cutter
Square ruler - if you have one
Ruler
Cutting board
