Jim Strachan
James Strachan, now in his 70’s, has been working with wood all of his life. A talented and prolific woodworker, Jim resides in Huntly. Since retiring three years ago, he has found more time to turn bowls and to experiment with wood.
His ambition is to work almost exclusively with storm-felled and recycled wood. Jim produces golden burr elm dram stools, bespoke garden benches and Adirondack chairs using waste wood from the cooperage industry.
Jim is a great friend to the Grampian Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers. If ever there is a loom in need of repair, or a beautifully balanced spinning wheel desired - then Jim Strachan is the man for the job!!!! Jim started out making spinning wheels by copying a picture in a magazine and now is one of the foremost authorities on wheels in the area. He is currently making a spinning wheel from an old bicycle – taking recycling to the limit!
