Paul Jarman

Paul Jarman runs a small cabinet-making business, Golden Wood Joinery, from his home near Alford. He is a self-taught cabinetmaker specialising in unique, hand-built furniture tailor-made to the requirements of his customers.

Paul has been working with wood for more than 20 years. He is the 2007 winner of the Gordon Forum for the Arts Sculpture award, which he won for a large finely turned burr wych elm bowl. His passion lies in using natural, unusually patterned wood to create items that combine practicality with organic beauty. His work is easily recognized by his use of the natural edge of the wood as a design element.

“ I am inspired by the grain, texture and colour of the wood I use. I am particularly drawn to Scots Elm because of its unique tones of green, yellow, and brown. “ Paul sources his own wood from small independent timber yards and uses storm felled wood whenever possible.

Paul Jarman is a talented traditional craftsman, building elegant, sophisticated pieces of furniture. He is a gifted wood turner, and his high quality, artistic pieces can be found at 'Touched by Scotland Ltd'.
